Blithe Boswellia frereana, également connu sous le nom d'encens Maydi, est un arbre copieux à longue durée de vie qui pousse à des altitudes élevées dans les hautes terres calcaires brunies par le sable de la Somalie. Il est tellement apprécié qu'un seul arbre est souvent légué en héritage.
Ce légendaire arbre à encens copte peut atteindre jusqu'à quarante pieds de haut avec un tronc pouvant s'étendre jusqu'à deux pieds de circonférence. Au sommet de l'arbre se trouve un éventail de feuilles étroites vertes et argentées légèrement frisées sur les bords. Les multicouches d'écorce de papyrus se décollent en bandes pour révéler une couche transparente dorée qui ressemble à du papier huilé. Un robinet placé dans l'écorce dégage un flux de sève blanche laiteuse aromatique qui durcit en une résine dorée. Cette résine est distillée à la vapeur pour produire l'huile essentielle d'encens de Frereana. L'entaillage, la collecte et la distillation sont une tradition tribale, et l'artisanat spécial est transmis de génération en génération.
Les attributs résolus de ce puissant arbre royal sont conférés à son huile essentielle réparatrice, qui est une richesse de composants végétaux renforçants et vivifiants, tels que l'a-thujène et l'a-pinène. Transformée en sérum ultra-adoucissant, en huile de massage fondante ou mélangée à de l'argile pour en faire une compresse, elle fortifie et adoucit pour faciliter le lever et le départ.
